Privacy Policy

1. Introduction

HealthBytes, Inc., a California corporation, (“Company”) respects your privacy and is committed to protecting it through our compliance with this privacy policy (“Privacy Policy,” as may be referred to in other Company documentation, including but not limited to the Terms of Service). This Privacy Policy describes the types of information we may collect from you or that you may provide when you visit the website at www.storyhealth.com and all related subdomains (“Website”), and while using the HealthBytes mobile application (“App,” together with the Website, the “HealthBytes Platform”) to access our Services (as defined in the Terms of Service) and our practices for collecting, using, maintaining, protecting, and disclosing such information.

This Privacy Policy applies to information we collect on the HealthBytes Platform:

  • when you browse our Website or use our App, or
  • when you submit a form to create a HealthBytes Account (as defined in the Terms of Service), or
  • in text messages, phone calls, emails and other electronic messages between you and the Company.

It does not apply to information:

  • collected by the Company offline or through any other means, including on any other website operated by the Company or any third party; or
  • any third party, including through any application or content that may link to or be accessible from or on the HealthBytes Platform.

Please read this Privacy Policy carefully to understand our policies and practices regarding your information and how we will handle it. If you do not agree with our policies and practices, your remedy is to not access and use the HealthBytes Platform. This Privacy Policy may change from time to time. We will use our best effort to provide email notice to any registered users about the changes to our Privacy Policy. Your continued use of the HealthBytes Platform after we make changes to our Privacy Policy is deemed to be the acceptance of those changes, so please check this Privacy Policy periodically for updates.

2. Children’s Privacy

HealthBytes Platform is not intended for children under the age of 13. You must be at least 13 years old or older to use our Services. We will not knowingly collect information from children under the age of 13. If Company learns that we have collected or received personal information from a person under 13, we will delete that information. Additionally, no one under the age 18 may provide any personal information to or on HealthBytes Platform without the permission of your parent or guardian. If you are a minor under the age of 18, you will need the permission of your parent or guardian prior to using the HealthBytes Platform to use the Services or to provide any information about yourself to us, including your name, address, telephone number, email address, or any other information. If you believe your child has provided us with personal information without your authorization and you would like to have the personal information deleted, please contact us by emailing legal@healthbytes.com.

3. Information We Collect About You and How We Collect It

We collect several types of information from and about users of the HealthBytes Platform, which may include information:

  • by which you may be personally identified, such as name, age/birthday, e-mail address, telephone number or any other identifier by which you may be contacted online or offline (“Personal Information”);
  • that is about you but individually does not identify you; and

We collect this information:

  • directly from you when you provide it to us;
  • automatically as you navigate through the HealthBytes Platform. Information collected automatically may include usage details.

The information we collect through the HealthBytes Platform may include:

  • information that you provide by filling in forms on the HealthBytes Platform. This includes information provided at the time of registering for a HealthBytes Account;
  • information you provide when you report a problem with the HealthBytes Platform;
  • records and copies of your correspondence (including email addresses) if you contact us.

As you navigate through and interact with our Website, we may use automatic data collection technologies, such as Google Analytics and ASP.NET Session ID, to collect certain information about your equipment, browsing actions, and patterns, including:

  • details of your visits to our Website, including traffic data, logs, and other communication data and the resources that you access and use on the Website;
  • information about your computer and internet connection, including your IP address, operating system, and browser type;

We may collect and store information about your use of the App, such as activity information including the date and time.

We collect your use patten when you access the App, your search activity, the contents you view, whether you view, click or otherwise interact with content, including articles, and your topic of interest while using the App.

We may also store information that your computer or mobile device provides to us in connection with your use of the Services, such as your advertising identifier.

The information we collect automatically may include Personal Information, or we may maintain it or associate it with Personal Information we collect in other ways. It helps us to improve the HealthBytes Platform and to deliver a better and more personalized service, including by enabling us to:

  • estimate our audience size and usage patterns,
  • store information about your preferences, allowing us to customize our Services according to your individual interests,
  • speed up your searches and overall platform infrastructure, and
  • recognize you when you return to HealthBytes Platform or use our Services.

4. How We Use Your Information.

We use the information that we collect about you or that you provide to us, including any Personal Information:

  • to present HealthBytes Platform and its contents to you,
  • to provide you with information or services that you request from us,
  • to fulfill any other purposes for which you provide such information for,
  • to enhance the HealthBytes Platform via with customized and personalized viewing recommendations for content we think will be of interest to you,
  • to provide you with customized Services and advertising you view,
  • to carry out our obligations and enforce our rights arising from any contracts entered into between you and us,
  • to notify you about changes to HealthBytes Platform,
  • in any other way we may describe when you provide the information to us,
  • for any other purposes with your consent.

You may access the HealthBytes Platform through different devices (e.g., your mobile phone or computer) and different platforms (e.g., the Website or App). The information that we collect and store through those different uses may be cross-referenced and combined.

5. Disclosure of Your Information.

We may disclose aggregated information about our users, and information that does not identify any individual, without restriction. We may disclose Personal Information that we collect, or you provide as described in this Privacy Policy:

  • to our subsidiaries and affiliates;
  • to contractors, service providers, and other third parties we use to support our business and who are bound by contractual obligations to keep Personal Information confidential and use it only for the purposes for which the Company discloses it to them;
  • to a buyer or other successor in the event of a merger, divestiture, restructuring, reorganization, dissolution, or other sale or transfer of some or all of the Company’s assets, whether as a going concern or as part of bankruptcy, liquidation, or similar proceeding, in which Personal Information held by the Company about HealthBytes users is among the assets transferred,
  • to fulfill the purpose for which you provide it,
  • for any other purpose disclosed by us when you provide the information, or
  • with your consent.

We may also disclose your Personal Information:

  • to comply with any court order, law, or legal process, including to respond to any government or regulatory request,
  • to enforce or apply our Terms of Service and other agreements,
  • if we believe disclosure is necessary or appropriate to protect the rights, property, or safety of HealthBytes, its affiliates, other HealthBytes users, or others.

We may sell, trade or rent any of your Personal Information to third-parties, except if you request us not to do so.

  • We may share information from or about you (such as your age, your health care topic of interest), and your use of the Services with third party advertisement partners HealthBytes works with to bring you more useful and interesting advertising content through interest-based advertising. You may adjust your account settings to increase or decrease the amount of information we may share with others.
  • You may choose to opt out of receiving interest-based advertisements, we will stop collecting Personal Information from the devise that you used to opt out for purposes of interest-based advertisements. In addition, we will, as soon as reasonably possible, permanently decouple any information we hold from your advertising identifier.
  • No such Personal Information will be shared with any third-parties if you elect to access the HealthBytes Platform as a unregistered guest user.

6. Choices About How We Use and Disclose Your Information

We strive to provide you with choices regarding the Personal Information you provide to us. We have created mechanisms to provide you with the following control over your information:

  • Tracking Technologies and Advertising. You can set your browser to refuse all or some browser cookies, or to alert you when cookies are being sent. To learn how you can manage your Flash cookie settings, visit the Flash player settings page on Adobe's website. If you disable or refuse cookies, please note that some parts of this site may then be inaccessible or not function properly.

Nevada residents who wish to exercise their sale opt-out rights under Nevada Revised Statutes Chapter 603A may submit a request to this designated address: legal@healthbytes.com.

7. Submissions

We collect content and information that you submit to the Service, including posts, comments, searches, survey responses, and user support requests.

8. Communications Tools

The Services include a community Q&A section communication tool called “ASK” that enable our users to communicate with each other. We collect information about usage of these tools, such as when a member uses the tool and what the communication content was.

You are not allowed to act as or on behalf of a “covered entity” under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and should not disclose or transmit protected health information subject to HIPAA in connection with your use of the communication tools. Protected health information under HIPAA include information such as diagnoses, treatment information, medical test results, prescription information, national identification numbers and demographic information such as birth dates, gender, ethnicity, and contact and emergency contact information. Your communication content may be related to diseases, illnesses, or conditions you may have or that may run in your family or that you are interested in learning more about, if no protected health information is disclosed.

9. Accessing and Correcting Your Information.

You can review and change your Personal Information, including your health care topics of interest by logging into the HealthBytes Platform and visiting your account profile page.

You may also send us an email at legal@healthbytes.com to request access to, correct, or delete any Personal Information that you have provided to us. We cannot delete your Personal Information except by also deleting your user account. We may not accommodate a request to change information if we believe the change would violate any law or legal requirement or cause the information to be incorrect.

If you delete your User Contributions from the HealthBytes Platform, copies of your User Contributions may remain viewable in cached and archived pages or might have been copied or stored by other Website users. Proper access and use of information provided on the Website, including User Contributions, is governed by our Terms of Service.

10. Data Security.

We have implemented measures designed to secure your Personal Information from accidental loss and from unauthorized access, use, alteration, and disclosure. All information you provide to us will be saved in encrypted format.

There would be no public access to any of the bucket where the files and databases are stored.

We will also ensure that when we open the files, they would be opened only for a limited interval so that there is a very little chance for copying the data in the files. No Personal Information will be exposed in the code. We will not store any Personal Information in the local memory which can be exploited. All the calls to the server should strictly be through SSL and Data at REST and Data at Transit will both be encrypted.

The safety and security of your information also depends on you. Where we have given you (or where you have chosen) a password for access to certain parts of the HealthBytes Platform, you are responsible for keeping this password confidential. We ask you not to share your password with anyone. We urge you to be careful about giving out information in public areas of the Website like message boards. The information you share in public areas may be viewed by any user of the Website.

Unfortunately, the transmission of information via the internet is not completely secure. Although we do our best to protect your Personal Information, we cannot guarantee the security of your Personal Information transmitted to the Company. Any transmission of Personal Information is at your own risk. We are not responsible for circumvention of any privacy settings or security measures contained on the Website.

11. Data Retention and Account Termination

You may close your account by clicking here. After the termination of your account, we may retain information about you for the purposes authorized under this Privacy Policy unless prohibited by law. For example, we may retain information to prevent, investigate, or identify possible wrongdoing in connection with the Services or to comply with legal obligations. We may also maintain residual copies of your Personal Information in our backup systems.

12. Changes to Our Privacy Policy.

We will post any changes we make to our Privacy Policy on this page. The date this Privacy Policy was last revised is identified at the top of the page. You are responsible for ensuring we have an up-to-date active and deliverable email address for you, and for periodically visiting the Website and this Privacy Policy to check for any changes.

13. California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA)

To the extent provided for by law and subject to applicable exceptions, California residents have the following privacy rights in relation to the Personal Information we collect:

  • The right to know what Personal Information we have collected and how we have used and disclosed that Personal Information;
  • The right to request deletion of your Personal Information; and
  • The right to be free from discrimination relating to the exercise of any of your privacy rights.

Verification. In order to protect your Personal Information from unauthorized access or deletion, we may require you to verify your login credentials before you can submit a request to know or delete Personal Information. If you do not have an account with us, or if we suspect fraudulent or malicious activity, we may ask you to provide additional Personal Information for verification. If we cannot verify your identity, we will not provide or delete your Personal Information.

Authorized Agents. you may submit a request to know or a request to delete your Personal Information through an authorized agent. If you do so, the agent must present signed written permission to act on your behalf and you may also be required to independently verify your identity with us.
